The Brewery and Restaurant U Fleků in the center of Prague (Křemencova street) is unique among microbreweries in Czech Republic mostly because of its historical tradition. The year 1499, when Vít Skřemenec bought an ancient house with right to brew up, is considered to be the foundation year of the brewery. Since 1921, the brewery with restaurant was a property of the Brtník family, up to the nationalization in 1949. Only at the beginning of 1990s, the restaurants and the brewery were returned to the family. The place is divided up to several saloons with original names: Staročeská (Old Czech), Velký sál (Large Saloon), Kufr (Trunk), Akademie (Academy), Rytířský sál zvaný Emauzy (Knightly saloon called Emauzy), Jitrnice (Sausage), Václavka a Chmelnice – residence of Flek cabaret. Each of the rooms has its rich history and boasts with unique decoration from significant Czech artists who belong to residents of the restaurant. The pride of the company is the brewery and historical brew house from beginning of the century, cooling stocks and fermenting tubs in fermenting cellar made of oak wood based on old patterns. Today’s design of the brewery is the result of reconstruction in 1986 that set the brewery as modern but unique historical business. At the occasion of 500th anniversary of the brewery foundation, the brewing museum was opened in former malt-house, where you can see expositions of old brewing machines, tools and dishes.
